Prehistorical Lotus Flowers

Most of intelligent Japanese know about "Ohga Lotus". A botanist, Dr. Ohga, found lotus seeds in the remains of prehistorical "Yayoi Era" of two thousand years ago in Chiba Prefecture. He tried very hard to revive the seeds and succeeded. The "Ohga Lotus" was distributed to institutes and parks.

Fujimi Town in Nagano Prefecture at Mt. Yatsugatake's foot has a museum and large scale remains of "Jomon Era". "Ohga Lotus" is raised there, too.

"Ohga Lotus" there bloom from mid-July to mid-August. A flower blooms for about three days but only from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. The flower closes for the rest of the day.
